Saturday Market Haul

I went to the Wolfville Farmer's Market for the last time today. I've got the rest of my summer weekends booked before I move back home so I decided to take advantage of the sunny morning and take myself out for a coffee and a stroll through Wolfville. Started my day at Just Us Coffeehouse with a flat white, a muffin and Harry Potter, before walking down Wolfville's quaint streets to the Saturday market.

If you've been around here for any length of time you'll know I frequently went to markets when living in England. The nice thing about living in the Valley is there are daily markets and weekend markets; fresh produce, baked goods, delicious coffees, handmade gifts, local brews.

When I first walked in I overheard "Did you get a donut?". My ears immediately perked up; Last time I was at the market I didn't see any donuts. Sure enough, first stall on my left: Binky's Donuts. Choosing which one to buy was my hardest decision of the day. Did I go for the Norman: maple bacon flavored? The Cynthia: ginger cardamom glaze? Dr Sam: blueberries, cloves and orange glaze? In the end I took the Zingus: lemon with french tarragon spiced glaze. I know.

Immediately when I ate it I regretted not getting a half dozen. Or a dozen.

My other market purchases were fresh peaches and rhubarb from a stall overflowing with vegetables and fruit in a rainbow of colors. Serious, I've never seen brighter beets or more colorful bunches of carrots. I'm planning on doing some baking with my haul, so stay tuned for that (fingers crossed my attempt at pie turns out!).

Well HI there!
How are you?

I just had the nicest solo Saturday, so I thought I'd post some snaps and have a little chat.

Starting with a few non-Saturday pictures: yesterday, my housemate and I biked* to the beach to meet our friend Kiri for some sun and swim and wine. I participated only in the sun and wine. I dipped my toes but my excuse for not getting in the sea was having no towel with me. How convenient that I had forgotten it at home. :)

*A little bike sidenote: I bought my bike over a month ago and am still slightly mildly terrified to ride it into town. So I've only done it like.. three times. It's just the buses, people. WHAT IF THEY HIT ME? WHICH SIDE DO I BIKE ON WHEN THEY'RE PULLING OVER? Ugh.

Also I threw in a random photo from last Sunday when Gareth and I went for a Sunday roast and then met our other housemate, Julia, in the gardens for some Pimm's. Sunny weekends are where it's at.

And now for today: after spending far too long lazing in bed this morning (we will pretend it wasn't almost noon when I opened my curtains..) I threw on some shorts and went into town. Had a cake and iced coffee for breakfast at a cafe, which also happens to be my new place of employment! It's in the Lanes, which is where I wanted to work since moving here, and I start on Wednesday, and I'm very excited.

Post healthy breakfast (...) I wandered to the beach to snap a few instax pictures, which I'm sure I'll share at some point. The beach was PACKED and I had to dodge tourists and seagulls to make my way along.

Spent a bit of time wandering the Lanes, and reading in the Pavilion gardens, soaking up the sun and people watching. Annnnnnd then I came home, ate pizza in the sun by our front garden gate, played with the crazy cat and then watched some Pretty Little Liars, the stupidest and most addictive show ever. I keep promising myself I will quit. And yet here I am in season six, dying to know who A is.

SO now that I've written a million more words than I normally do, I'm going to skype my friend Mike and go to bed. Because that's what crazy wild party kids do on a Saturday night.

Lots of looooovexxx

Tiff Takes London

Look! Tiff is here! My friend from good ol' Canada is traveling Europe for the summer and has popped into London for a week visit.

Started her trip off with a bang - Katy Perry at the O2. I bought tickets in November hoping I'd have someone to go with come May and it couldn't have worked out better! It was so exciting. I love Katy Perry. Even more after she flew through the audience attached to balloons and entered one set on a giant gold and pink horse.

Started our Saturday at Brockley Market with amazing bacon avocado sandwiches served to us by some extremely handsome bearded men (at a stall which for the life of me I cannot remember the name of).

And then cake, of course.

Took a stroll up the mall after a stop in Trafalgar Square to head towards Buckhingham Palace. Tiff has never been to London so we're really hitting up all the tourist hot spots, which, I have to say, is so much fun and lately I've been forgetting to be a tourist here. Remedying that starting immediately!
Don't I look so tall in that picture?

Felt a bit warm and tired from all the walking so refueled in Green Park with some ciders and strawberries we bought at Brockley Market that morning.

Sunday took us to Brick Lane once we woke up - quite late, I may add. (I may have lied earlier. There were four bottles Saturday night).

Luckily we cured ourselves with falafel (me) and fish and chips (Tiff's first in London!). Add in some fresh juices and we were ready for Sunday.

Strolled down Columbia Road flower market since we were in the area, laughing at all the sellers shouting "ONE FER THREE PAUND, TWO FER FIVE! TWO FER FIIIIIIVE".

Then Tiff had an important phone call to make before we headed home, a bit exhausted from weekending.

Last night we barbecued. Well, Joe did. The rest of us sat around and drank Pimm's and talked until the bbqing was done.
I'm loving Spring here, warm days and warm evenings, reading outside and long walks in green parks.
